Medieval New York explores the history behind the Met Cloisters, the premier location of medieval art, architecture, and objects in the city. Before the Metropolitan Museum of Art took over the location in the 1940s, the Cloisters were an immersive museum designed by sculptor and collector George Grey Barnard to house his extensive holdings of medieval art and objects acquired abroad. Through an application (coming soon!) equipped with descriptions, audio and visual resources and AR recreations of historic buildings, MNY places the origin of the Cloisters in context, and asks how institutions like museums shape our perceptions of the middle ages.
